October is National Bullying Prevention Month.
We invite all students and staff to wear ORANGE on Wednesday, October 22nd to show their commitment to school “UNITY” and against bullying behaviors. Students will have the opportunity to receive a “Unity at Lake” orange bracelet handed out by staff members and Lake Middle School’s Student Council representatives when they arrive to school on Wednesday morning to wear throughout the school day to show their support and commitment to be “bully-free” at Lake Middle School.
Additional Information for Unity Day at Lake:
Students will be spending Unity Day in their Homebase classes participating in a variety of activities and programming which includes an outside production entitled “Lockdown” by CLIMB Theater which has been sponsored by Lake Middle School’s PTA.
· Continued content (i.e. information regarding cyber bullying, District 833’s Bullying Prohibition Policy, information/resources about reporting incidents at school, proactive communication and strategies, acts of kindness, etc.) will be incorporated throughout the day in their Homebase classrooms.
National Bullying Prevention Month in October is resourced by the “PACER” organization. It’s a time when communities can unite nationwide to raise awareness of bullying prevention through events, activities, outreach, and education. Resources from PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center make it easy to take action. PACER created the campaign in 2006 with a one-week event which has now evolved into a month-long effort that encourages everyone to take an active role in the bullying prevention movement.
For further information, please visit Pacer’s website located at: http://www.pacer.org/bullying/nbpm/unity-day.asp

Lake Middle School AVID Students Give Back
8th grade Lake Middle School AVID students made boy themed tie blankets and cards for kids to donate to Gillette's Hospital. In addition, the Drew Macke Foundation donated $200.00 worth of Dairy Queen gift cards (Drew is an AVID student at Lake Middle School who has benefited from the kindness of others during his hospitalizations.) A $5.00 DQ gift card was placed in each of the cards students created. AVID student leaders delivered the cards and tie blankets on Tuesday, June 10th with their AVID teacher Mrs. Casey Tody!
This year’s 8th grade class determined their themed t-shirt for the end of the school year to read “We’re Kind of a Big Deal – Class of 2018!” As a staff, we agree---this group of students have been “kind of a big deal” and we will truly miss them! The link below brings you to a website where you can preview (and order if you wish) pictures that were taken during the 8th grade celebration boat trip on the St. Croix River! A VERY special thank you to Lake Middle School’s PTA for sponsoring the 8th grade boat trip.
