Sorenson-Wagner returns to Woodbury High School as Principal
After two years at Park High School as an assistant principal, Sarah Sorenson-Wagner has been selected to replace Woodbury High School Principal Linda Plante, who is retiring at the end of this school year.
Sorenson-Wagner is a proven leader within the South Washington County School District. She began with the district in 2000 as a teacher of Deaf and hard of hearing students, and transitioned after eight years to assistant principal at Woodbury High School where she served for four years prior to transitioning to Park High School.
Through her application materials, Sorenson-Wagner shared her strengths of collaboration, sensitivity to the needs of all students and their families, strong lines of communication, and coordination of large building activities and programs. She said, “as a former special education teacher, it is ingrained in me to advocate for all students and seek creative ways to ensure every student is successful.”
At the district level, Sorenson-Wagner has supported strategic planning since 2007, served on a variety of committees including the school-wide consultation team, student information advisory committee, kindergarten/early intervention review team, Advanced Placement grant advisory team, and the high school redesign task force. She was a participant in the Twin Cities Area Metropolitan Principals’ Academy from 2010-13.
Of her selection, Superintendent Keith Jacobus said, “We are confident in the leadership abilities of Ms. Sorenson-Wagner, and her commitment to the continued tradition of instructional excellence at Woodbury High School.”
Sorenson-Wagner added, “It's an honor to follow in the footsteps of Linda Plante. Without her mentorship I wouldn't have grown to be the leader I am today. I am proud to continue the legacy of success and am looking forward to contributing to Woodbury High School's rich history of excellence in academics, the arts and athletics. I am humbled to have been selected to serve the students, staff, and community of Woodbury High School.”
Sorenson-Wagner holds her Educational Administration Principal Licensure and also Director of Special Education Licensure through Saint Mary’s University. She also has teacher licensure for Deaf and hard of hearing, a Master of Education in Educational Psychology, and Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Psychology with a Music Minor from the University of Minnesota.
